$100 off West Coast packages: Holiday Booster
Join DWC Advisory Body member, Shaun Drylie, at the end of year business breakfast in Hokitika for an inspiring discussion on Shaun’s career and the lessons he’s learnt along the way.
Although Shaun was not “born and bred” in Hokitika, he still considers himself a Coaster. He is married to Susan (nee Hughes) who is definitely a Coaster, and they have two sons (16, 12). His parents, John and Jan Drylie have been deeply involved in the Hokitika community for the past 35 years, before his father’s death 2 years ago.
Starting out as a 16-year-old bank teller in the Hokitika branch of Westland Savings Bank (now ASB), Shaun’s 35-year career journey has included managing branches, running regions and diverse general management roles including leading teams of 1,500 people and overseeing 150 branches. Shaun spent two years in Vietnam leading the transformation of a local Vietnamese bank - an enriching and eye-opening experience for Shaun and his young family.
For the previous 5 years, Shaun has been based in Invercargill as the SBS Bank Group CEO, with responsibility for the performance of the bank and 3 subsidiaries, 500 staff, a $10 Billion balance sheet and an annual profit of ~$50M.
Shaun has been an active member on the Southland Chamber of Commerce Board and established and Chaired the Southland Housing Action Forum. In 2021 he was appointed to Development West Coast’s Advisory Body in 2021 as he wanted to reconnect with the Coast and support where he can.
Shaun has recently stepped down from the CEO role to move his family to Christchurch for schooling and so that he and Susan can be closer to family in Hokitika and the business interests he has on the Coast. He is in the process of determining what he wants to do for the next stage of his professional life.
