Gold Trail - Shantytown to Moana - The Amazing Ride through history

Gold Trail is an amazing ride through the history of the West Coast and the Gold Trails that both our ancestors and many Chinese walked, in the search for their riches of the Gold of the West Coast.

You’ll start in the history created of Shantytown.

Until the Gold Trail Mountain Bike Ride there has never been a peloton of mountain bike rider’s ride down the Main Street of Shantytown. “This was a first” and it now happens once a year, why not be one of those enjoying the experience?

If you're a first time rider to an elite rider, then this is the bike ride for you.

You’re going to see some of the untouched beauty of the West Coast of New Zealand. The beauty of the natural creeks, ferns, punga’s, the mighty rimu trees and natural flowing creeks coupled with the forestry roads with plenty of surprises.

If the start in Shantytown doesn’t get to you, then the beauty of Moana and Lake Brunner will as you cross the Arnold River via the swing bridge into Moana, then the Lake front, as you head to the Moana Hotel. What a way to finish with a beer waiting for you!

This 40km mountain bike will touch every rider.

In 2022 we're giving riders 2 options for the race, 1 going up Cockeye Creek and the 2nd going up Mosquito Creek.

Both rides are the same distance but Cockeye Creek is 30 minutes slower for the lead riders and up to 90 minutes slower for the tail end riders.

The last 24km of the race will be the same for everyone, just the first part differs. if you're a seasoned mountain bike do Cockeye Creek, if you're out to enjoy some of the countries best Untamed scenery then Mosquito Creek is the option. With these 2 options it gives everyone the chance to experience the amazing Untamed West Coast.
