Hokitika Junk2Funk 2018 will be a wearable art event held on the first day of Spring and the whitebait season - Saturday 1 September.
You can enter Hokitika Junk2Funk in two ways. You can either make an entire garment or outfit inspired by the theme "SprinG!" or you can make one or more accessories inspired by the theme "Gone Fishing....".
Accessories can be anything that can be worn or carried, including (but not limited to) bags, hats, scarves, jewellery, shoes, socks, gloves, leg-warmers, fascinators, hair pieces, whatever.
The only rule is that at least 75% of the materials used to make your item must be recycled or pre-used. If you are entering an item in the fashion show, it must be “wearable” and it must be modeled (paraded up and down a catwalk) by you or someone else. So make sure it can be walked in (including up and down a couple of steps) and that it won't fall to pieces during the event. Points will be deducted for unintentional wardrobe malfunctions.
The "SprinG!" Collection will be showcased in a fashion show event on the evening of September 1st. The "Gone Fishing..." accessories will be exhibited that evening in a static display and for the following two weeks (along with the "SprinG!" Collection) at the Carnegie Gallery.
There will be multiple prize categories for both types of entry including (but not necessarily limited to) best interpretation of the theme, best student entry (primary and secondary), best first time entry, best use of recycled paper or packaging, and best use of recycled plastic.
There will be a small entry fee per item, with a discount for multiple entries and/or student entries. Entry forms and fees will be due two weeks prior to the event. You don't need to have finished your entry by then, we just need you to describe it so we can plan the show and the exhibition. Late entries may or may not be accepted at the organiser's discretion.
Sponsors currently confirmed for Hokitika Junk2Funk 2018 are Take Note Bookshop, Photo Corner, New World Supermarket, and the Lions.
