Hokitika Junk2Funk 2019 is a wearable art event held on Saturday 24th August at 7pm at the Old Lodge Theatre in Revell Street, Hokitika. All entries are wearable and are created from recycled materials on this year's theme which is "One World".
You can enter Hokitika Junk2Funk in two ways. You can either make an entire garment or outfit inspired by the theme or a piece of headwear on the theme "One World".
The only rule is that at least 75% of the materials used to make your item must be recycled or pre-used. Your item must be “wearable” and it must be modeled (paraded up and down a catwalk) by you or someone else. So make sure it can be walked in (including up and down a couple of steps) and that it won't fall to pieces during the event.
There will be multiple prize categories for both types of entry including (but not necessarily limited to) best interpretation of the theme, best student entry (primary and secondary), best first time entry, best use of recycled paper or plastic, and most avant garde.
There will be a small entry fee per item, with a discount for multiple entries and/or student entries. Entry forms and fees will be due two weeks prior to the event. You don't need to have finished your entry by then, we just need you to describe it so we can plan the show and the judging. Late entries will not be accepted.
Sponsors currently confirmed for Hokitika Junk2Funk 2019 are Photo Corner, the Hokitika Lions, the Hokitika Soroptomists, Tania Winters, Porky's Takeaways, and the Regent Theatre.
