Love Hokitika, in conjunction with the WDC and The Lions Club of Hokitika, would like the CBD to come alive for the Friday and Saturday evenings of the Matariki National Holiday and proposes late night shopping, entertainment and street dining.
The CBD of Hokitika will be closed to vehicles and transformed into a communal seating and entertainment area to enjoy the Festival of Light - an interactive and immersive historic and cultural lighting show in the Hokitika CBD.
The Festival of Light will feature cultural and historical light and sound shows cast onto heritage buildings throughout the Hokitika CBD including:
- The Former Government Building
- The Former Renton’s Building
- The Former Elcock and Johnson Building
- The Hokitika Town Clock
These will create wonder and a sense of awe amongst audience members as they wander the CBD.
Additionally, there will be interactive lighting and sound displays for all of the family to enjoy including professional art installations projected onto vintage cars, tractors and fire engines.
This is an all-weather event.
