The Coaltown Museum can be found in the Westport i-SITE and is a must do for history enthusiasts. Learn about the Denniston Plateau, life on the Coast as a coal miner, the Westport wharf and more.
OutWest Tours take place in covered, air conditioned 4X4 vehicles in back country where you'll learn all about the coal mining history of the area and more!
If you prefer to stay 100% dry, you have to do the Glow Worm Tour. The largest glow worm colony on the planet, this 3.5 hour tour takes you through the cave system of the Kahurangai National Park, so you'll stay dry.
If you want to try your hand at cave rafting, don't worry about the weather, you'll be suited up in a wet suit to keep you warm in the river, it's definitely worth it!
Monteiths Brewing Co.
Explore the history behind the 151 year old Monteith's Brewing Co. in Greymouth with a tasty tray, brewery tour and a spot of lunch.
Explore the heritage park in any weather and take a trip on the steam train into the rainforest. Pan for gold or post in historical attired for a picture. Located just south of Greymouth.
The National Kiwi Centre
Right in the centre of Hokitika, The National Kiwi Centre is home to West Coast eels, weta, Tuatura and of course, Kiwi!
Ross Goldfields Information Centre
If you're a history buff, you need to stop in at Ross. Visit the Ross Goldfields to learn more about the water races, pan for gold undercover, explore the historical court house and more!
Farwest Farm Tours
Experience a live milking session in Hari Hari and pat the cows (they love it). If you're lucky, you'll be there during calf season!

Admittedly the shade cloths over the hot pools aren't 100% water proof, but you'll be enjoying soaking in the hot waters so much that you won't even notice a few drops!
Upgrade to a private pool to hide away from the rain in your own little cave, or retreat indoors for an one hour massage.
Haast River Safari
Rain or shine, you'll be kept absolutely bone dry in the Haast River Safari boat as it's completely covered, all while offering 100% visibility. Zip along the waters of Haast Pass, the mountains will take your breath away.
Waiatoto River Safari
Waiatoto River Safari in Haast can put a top on their boat for you to jet up into back country and take in the stunning mountains of the World Heritage Area.
