The biggest famil we have hosted EVER! 25 pax from across the world spent the weekend experiencing our region and its Untamed Natural Wilderness. This mega famil began in Auckland, making its way down the country to the West Coast. From us they travelled down through Central Otago and the Mackenzie Country before finishing in Christchurch.
Beginning their journey on the beautiful TranzAlpine Scenic Plus service, the group were wined and dined whilst admiring the stunning Southern Alps. Arriving at Moana they were welcomed by Hotel Lake Brunner, before travelling through to Mawhera Pounmau Pathway, following in the footsteps of explorers, traders and guardians of Pounamu. Monteiths Brewery shared their story with the group over a cold beer, before heading to Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes. Checking into the Scenic Hotel Punakaiki, the group settled in for the night.
Saturday seen the group split in two, the adventure group heading north and the nature group heading south. The adventure group started their day on the Trueman track, before heading to see the galaxy of glowworms at Underworld Adventures. After lunch they visited Ross Beach Top 10 Holiday Park, arriving at Franz Josef Wilderness Tours for a guided off road quad bike adventure!
The nature group walked into Coal Creek Falls before travelling to the Hokitika Gorge. After experiencing its tranquil blue waters the group visited Rimu Lodge, they then headed to the West Coast Treetop Walk and Tower Zipline, walking and ziplining through the Rimu and Kamahi tree canopy. The Hokitika Sandwich Company filled their bellies before an inspection at the Hokitika Fire Station Apartments. By then the sun was beginning to set, and the group met with Franz Josef Wilderness tours for their stunning Scenic Cruise and walk. The groups rejoined at Te Waonui for a delectable dinner and an early night.
Sunday morning really highlighted Franz Josefs incredible back drop, with blue skies the group headed to The Helicopter Line for the stunning Twin Glacier Scenic Flight. We then waved goodbye as they continued their journey south to Central Otago.
