Public input on Economic Development Strategy
To ensure there is a well-represented view of the region, the public has been asked to share their views on economic development. An online survey was conducted with 389 responses. This was followed by a workshop attended by youth from South Westland Area School, Westland High, Greymouth High, John Paul II and Buller High.
Building on the input from the survey and youth workshop, DWC recently facilitated a further session at Shantytown with 84 participants.
DWC economic development manager Jo Birnie said a key objective of the day was to create a vision for the West Coast and, with a focus beyond 2050, identify key challenges and opportunities.
“We had great engagement and a significant amount of input was received from participants at this workshop.
“This has been captured and will form the basis of the next stage of finalising the vision and formulating the short and medium term priorities needed for the West Coast to be a prosperous and resilient region.”
