After nearly a decade of service, I have decided not to seek re-election in the October 2025 Local Body Elections. I was elected to Development West Coast (DWC) in 2016 as the Grey District representative and have had the privilege of serving as Chair since 2017.
It has been an honour to serve the people of the Grey District and the wider West Coast region. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity and for the trust placed in me by fellow Trustees, colleagues, and the community over the past nine years.
Now feels like the right time to step aside and make space for new voices and fresh perspectives. Nine years is a meaningful amount of time in any leadership role, and I believe change is healthy — not only for governance, but for the continued growth of the organisation.
DWC has evolved over the years into a focused and resilient organisation, and I’ve been fortunate to work alongside many dedicated and passionate people. The Trustees, staff, and wider regional partners have all contributed to what we've been able to achieve. I have appreciated working with the local Mayors, Council Chairs, and Iwi. Everyone understands the importance of working together to get good outcomes for the West Coast. That must continue.
While there is always more to do, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together:
- Clarifying and strengthening DWC’s role as the region’s lead economic development agency, with a clear focus on long-term outcomes.
- Providing support and investment to West Coast businesses and communities, particularly during times of challenge and change.
- Fostering trusted partnerships with local government and Iwi, working closely with the Mayors, Chairs, and Iwi Collective to represent the region’s interests with one voice.
As I step down, I do so with full confidence in the people who will continue this work. DWC is in capable hands — governed by a thoughtful and progressive Board and supported by a hardworking, committed team. I’m proud to have been part of the journey and I look forward to seeing the West Coast continue to thrive.
