We're recruiting: Commercial Lending Manager

21 April 2025
Development West Coast
As the Commercial Lending Manager, you’ll play a key role in assessing, structuring, and managing funding that directly supports commercial success and regional prosperity.

Commercial Lending Manager

  • An incredibly diverse client base
  • A unique opportunity to support and enhance economic development
  • True work-life balance on the West Coast

Development West Coast (DWC) is not your average lender and investor.  A charitable trust and the economic development organisation for the West Coast, DWC exists to support the sustainable growth of West Coast businesses and communities, backing commercial ventures from Karamea to Haast, from engineering firms and agri-businesses to tourism operators, distilleries, and extractive industries, to name a few.

About the role:

As the Commercial Lending Manager, you’ll play a key role in this mission, assessing, structuring, and managing funding that directly supports commercial success and regional prosperity. Working at DWC offers the chance to genuinely shape the future of the West Coast. This is commercial lending with heart, backed by an organisation committed to making the region stronger through investment, innovation, and long-term thinking.

Why this opportunity stands out:

This isn’t a role where there is a one size fits all solution.  Every client will be different, challenging what you know, and providing you with growth and development at every turn.  You’ll be working closely with clients discussing ideas, understanding their business needs, and identifying  lending  solutions that will help drive employment and economic opportunity.

About you:

Whether you're already living on the West Coast and seeking a fresh opportunity beyond the traditional banking and corporate environments, or you're considering relocating for a career that offers both impact and lifestyle, this is a role that delivers. The West Coast offers not only rewarding work, but an enviable way of life; think mountains, rivers, national parks, and community connection.

As the ideal person to join this passionate and purpose-driven team, you’ll be:

  • Experienced in commercial lending or finance, with strong business acumen
  • Someone who can relate to all kinds of people; small business owners/start-ups, larger enterprise and professional service providers
  • Confident in client-facing conversations and skilled at building trust across diverse industries
  • Sharp with financial modelling, able to assess risk and opportunity
  • Clear and persuasive in writing and able to produce high-quality executive summaries
  • Motivated by doing work that truly makes a difference

Reporting to the CFO, you will manage the full lending lifecycle from application to in-depth due diligence and structured proposals, and present your findings to an independent Advisory Body and Trustees for funding approval.
