Business Growth and Innovation Advisor

  • Full Time
  • Fixed Term to 30 June 2027
  • Monday - Friday
  • Based in Greymouth and working with businesses across the West Coast region.

About Development West Coast:

Development West Coast (DWC) is the economic development agency and regional tourism organisation for the region.

DWC was set up as a Charitable Trust in 2001 to manage, invest and distribute income from a fund received from the Government. This fund was an adjustment package for the loss of indigenous forestry and the privatisation of much infrastructure on the West Coast in the late 1990s.

DWC is governed by a Deed of Trust to promote sustainable employment opportunities; and generate long term economic benefits for the West Coast.

Role at a Glance:

We know you’re out there. The strategic thinker with exceptional business acumen who thrives on helping others succeed. You’ve built a reputation for understanding complex business challenges quickly and recommending solutions that actually work. Now we’re offering you the platform to make an even bigger impact.

As DWC's Business Growth and Innovation Advisor, you’ll work directly with diverse clients to enhance their productivity and competitive edge. You’re someone who can stand confidently on your own while seamlessly integrating into a collaborative team environment.

You excel at:

  • Discerning what clients truly need, not just what they ask for.
  • Understanding innovation needs and mindsets across different business contexts.
  • Absorbing complex, unfamiliar information rapidly and transforming it into strategic insights.
  • Creating environments where businesses can thrive through thoughtful coaching and advising.
  • Guiding companies to appropriate research and development opportunities.
  • Listening first, asking insightful questions second and recommending actions third.
  • Managing multiple priorities with exceptional organisational skills.

What makes you a great fit?

You bring qualifications in commerce/economics or equivalent business experience that demonstrates your commercially savvy across multiple categories. You have a genuine interest in innovation and product development with experience in bringing a new product to the market. You approach your work with a growth mindset and the discernment to know that not every solution is the right one. Sometimes the best advice is to take a different path entirely.

The role is for someone who understands that business success comes from asking the right questions before providing answers. Someone who can navigate complex conversations with confidence and clarity.

If you recognise yourself in this description, we’d love to talk.
