Agents from Tapoi Travel, Pan Pacific Travel, Ahipara Luxury Travel, Pure Pacific Ltd, Southern Crossings, Pacific Destinations NZ, ATS Pacific - Helloworld, and General Travel embarked on a five day journey across the West Coast. The familiarisation tour (famil) provided them with firsthand experiences of the region's luxury accommodation, dining options, and unique activities, highlighting the West Coast's potential to attract high-end travellers.
Lara Thomas, DWC's Tourism & Events Executive, said they received fabulous feedback on the ‘Little Luxuries Famil’.
“Agents have expressed that their perception of the region has greatly improved since visiting, many are increasing their mainstream '2 nights on the West Coast' to now include at least 3-4 nights. This is an incredible outcome and one of the benefits of hosting famils,” she said.
“Everyone has been pleasantly surprised with the amount of things to see and do in the region. Some even commented ‘The best famil in NZ’ and ‘Way better than Queenstown’. I feel confident that the West Coast is top of mind for next season's itineraries."
Since April, DWC has hosted 63 travel agents on West Coast famils. These efforts are aimed at enhancing the agents' knowledge and appreciation of the region, ultimately benefiting local tourism operators through increased bookings and extended stays.
Looking ahead, DWC is preparing to host a Chinese ITO (inbound tour operators) famil and another ‘West Coast Little Luxuries Famil’ in September. The upcoming famils will welcome an additional 20 agents to experience the region's untamed natural wilderness.
"The second West Coast Little Luxuries famil was not originally in the plan, however DWC received 92 applications worldwide!” Lara added.
“We were overwhelmed with the interest and reached out to our local operators for support, gratefully we have been able to honour a second itinerary because of their amazing support.”
