Blue Pools Track Re-Opened
A must-do visitor experience has just reopened after a major upgrade, offering an enhanced and safer journey through some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most breathtaking alpine scenery. The Blue Pools Track, located 70 km south of Haast on the West Coast, has officially reopened following a series of extensive bridge and track upgrades.
The track is now more accessible than ever, featuring a 160-metre-long elevated boardwalk through lush beech forest, leading to the famed Blue Pools and their vibrant, glacier-fed waters. With new and upgraded suspension bridges, including a complete rebuild of the Makarora swing bridge and enhancements to the Blue Pools bridge, clients can now enjoy a smoother, safer and more immersive walking experience in this popular half-day walk.
A gentle 1.5 km return (approximately 1 hour), the Blue Pools Track suits a wide range of visitors—from families and international tour groups to FIT travellers looking for short nature experiences off the beaten path. The track’s improved infrastructure offers better flow and access for guided or self-drive itineraries and makes a perfect add-on to any West Coast touring route.
The upgrades ensure this natural gem remains a highlight on any South Island itinerary.
