About 1200 students from secondary schools throughout the West Coast attended two West Coast Employment Expos held this week in Greymouth and Westport.

Development West Coast, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ), Grey and Buller District Councils, Buller High School, Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP), West Coast Trades Academy (WCTA), and Productive People, hosted the expos.

The events brought together a wide range of businesses, industries, and employers from across the region to connect with students and job seekers.

DWC project manager Jade Mahuika said: “We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout and the energy in the room. The level of engagement from both young people and employers was incredibly encouraging.”

About 60 exhibitors took part, representing key sectors including Westland Milk Products, Fulton Hogan, Te Whatu Ora, Westland Mineral Sands, Electronet, NZ Police, MBD Contracting, and many more.

Meg Lunn from MBD Contracting praised the initiative, saying: “The expo was a fantastic way to showcase the wide range of career options available on the Coast and to connect with the next generation entering the workforce.”
