Open to anyone, the contest invites participants to share candid, unfiltered photographs taken around Buller this summer. Buller businesses have offered great prizes, which will be used to award best photographs - but all photos will get shared and many of them will be used to help promote the district.
Chair Jessie Creedmore says the community were obviously ready for something like this. They have already received over 150 entries.
“The response has been incredible. We’re struggling to keep up with the scheduling of posts! People have been snapping away all over Buller with excellent results - every corner of Buller represented with some beautiful photos that have made our committee and social media followers feeling pretty happy about living where we do and wanting to devote more time to exploring some of these stunning spots.”
The competition also lines up with the work the voluntary group is doing on pulling together a ‘graphic identity toolkit’ which will be available to anyone wanting to highlight what the district has to offer, to help inform or inspire prospective staff, residents, or investors.
“Those of us who choose to live here know it’s an excellent place to live. We want others to hear about Buller as well. Summer Snaps is helping build awareness online about Buller and also helping us curate incredible images of people and nature from every corner of Buller that will help us share our stories,” she says.
“From Reefton, to Punakaiki, to Karamea and everywhere in between, there are extraordinary people out and about every day this summer, having fun, working, hiking and biking and swimming and surfing, shopping and chilling. We’re a diverse district full of diverse people and visitors and breathtaking scenery. It’s time we shared that secret!”
The competition runs through to the end of February. More information is available on the Buller NZ Facebook page.
