The White Heron Sanctuary Tour consists of an informative minibus ride through private farmland into the Department of Conservation protected Waitangiroto Nature Reserve. In the Reserve a short walk leads visitors through ancient Kahikatea rainforest to a purpose-built viewing hide to observe the magnificent Kotuku, White Heron in their natural nesting environment. The Royal Spoonbill and the Little Shag also nest in this special area and can be seen from the hide. The untouched preserved rainforest and its surrounds are also home to a great array of other birdlife including, Tui, Bellbird, Wood Pigeon, Fantail, Tomtit, Silver Eye and Grey Warbler. The original and only tour to visit the White Heron nesting site, a truly unique experience.
