Jax Hamilton, a TV personality and celebrity chef received a calling from 'the West Coast angel' and moved to Kumara.
Jax Hamilton is a New Zealand-based chef, author, television personality, and motivational speaker. She is best known for her appearance on the second season of the New Zealand edition of the reality television show "MasterChef."
She was born in England, and before moving to New Zealand, she lived in places such as New York and Cyprus. In addition to her culinary expertise, Jax Hamilton is also an advocate for mental health awareness and has authored several books.
She has recently moved to Kumara, a little town nestled on the West Coast of New Zealand.
“In December 2021, I got a calling from the West Coast Angel to sell my house and move.”
Jax describes Kumara as almost like the Eden of her existence. She loves everything about this place - the community, the mountains, the ocean, and the parts of her that she has rediscovered since moving here.
According to Jax, coming to the West Coast allows you to revisit those places and spaces in your psyche that have been redundant for a long time. It's an opportunity to resurrect those parts of yourself and enjoy the process.
Jax's house in Kumara comes with a lot of land, and as a foodie, she has big plans for it. She wants to create a food forest and is currently taking a course at Greymouth Polytech to learn more about it.
“I'm doing a horticultural course because I wanted to respect the land and I wanted to grow my food
symbiotically with the West Coast mother nature”
At the end of that, she might have a cooking school where people can come along and cook themselves well from her ‘food forest’.
For Jax, Kumara is more than just a place - it's a journey to paradise.
“The Coast has the most incredible integrity and I can live with that for the rest of my life. ”
