Tourism Export Council of New Zealand revises visitor forecasts - November 2022

TECNZ have now factored in a range of new assumptions resulting in a positive change for the 22-23 season forecast (increase from 58.5% to 63.1%) despite the China market now not being factored in to return until late 2023. This is still an unknown. The key influencer on forecasts is number of airlines, flight routes, frequency of flights and number of seats sold.

  • By YE May 2023 annual number of arrivals 2,134,802 = 63.1%
  • By YE May 2024 annual number of arrivals 2,907,630 = 85.9%
  • By YE May 2025 annual number of arrivals 3,339,444 = 98.7%

Visitor Spend ($M):

  • By YE May 2023 annual visitor spend $7,798 billion = 57%
  • By YE May 2024 annual visitor spend $11,300 billion = 83%
  • By YE May 2025 annual visitor spend $13,298 billion = 97%
